Literacy Blog #5
My favorite scene in the book Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, is when Jacob is sitting at the dinner table and is meeting these children that Miss Peregrine is taking care of for the first time. They are all sitting around a large table getting ready to eat. Then all this food comes out of the kitchen like Otters wellington, salted kitten, shrew's liver, roasted goose, salmon, cod, mussels, roasted vegetables, breads, and so much more. When Jacob is at the table he recognizes kids that he has seen in his pictures his grandfather had. The conflict that occurs in this scene a changeover began to happen like it does every night to start another day.  A buzzer goes off then Jacob realizes that it is September third, 1940 and bombs are going to go off at any moment because of World War II. This is my favorite scene because this is the part in the book where everything is starting to fit together about what his father was saying. It is all making sense, like adding pieces to a puzzle.  It is also a very important part of the book because we learn a lot about the other characters and is very exciting. I really like this scene because the first time I bought this book I really wanted to know more about the picture and who the kids are. In this scene we get to know a lot about these characters and why they are peculiar.

Literary Blog #3
Ransom Riggs uses formal writing in his book called Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Ransom has only written this book so I cannot compare it to other books he has written but it shows a lot of his style of writing. He has a very large vocabulary and uses very descriptive language. He has a high level of word choice for more adults and young adults. But it still captures the teenaged audience this is what caught my eye. In this book he uses first person point of view being Jacobs’s point of view. The novel was organized in a problem and solution pattern. In the beginning of the story the problem was that Jacobs grandfather died and told him to go to the island he grew up and find the answers. The solution is hopefully he stops the monsters from harming his family and friends and finds the answers he is looking for. I think the author uses first person point of view because it is easier to relate to. Also how he uses problem and solution in this book because I find I is more enjoyable to find out what happens to the character in the end or if the problem is solved.
