Chapter 5 Questions

1. Gillespie sudden hostility to Virgil was because he wanted Virgil to solve the case because Frank Schubert told him he should so Gillespie would not get blamed if he does not finger out the crime.
2. Some characteristics of Virgil that is emphasized by his reaction to Gillespie’s outburst was that he was very calm, did not talk back, and took it smoothly.
3. Frank Schubert owned two gas station and ran a hard ware store. He is also the mayor of wells and the chairman of a small committee. The issue that Frank and Gillespie came into conflict was the death of Mantolli and too keep Virgil to help figure out the crime. He convinces Gillespie to use Virgil on the case by telling him if he fails to solve the case the whole town will be blaming him but if he keeps Virgil and to figure out the case and he does not there is someone to blame and it won’t be Gillespie it would be Virgil.
4.a) To Gillespie's relief Virgil did not smell of sweat because Virgil was walking for a while in the heat and was carrying a heavy suitcase. For some reason Gillespie does not like the smell of sweat.
b) When Virgil replied to Gillespie's answer he said "If Chief Morris asked me to, I'd go to England and look for Jack the Ripper". I think this show that Virgil has a good relationship with the Chief and respects him very much. By his comment I think it also show that he would do anything for his Chief and maybe Virgil was is a tough situation that Chief Morris helped him out.
c) Virgil stated "They had a murder here this morning. They don't know what to do about it, so they are using me for the fall guy." This show that if something goes wrong and they and can’t find the murderer then they would blame Virgil for it. So it would not make the new police chief and police look bad. They think the Virgil does not know about this but he does.
d)"I don't want to be the conspicuous." I think this means when you are easily noticeable  or attracts attention.
e) When Virgil said that "I can give you some references" "they're in California. San Quentin"  i think it means he can give them some help and advice.
5. Mrs. Endicott reacted very kind to Virgil and shook his hand.
6.  Eric Kaufmann was Mantoli associate and manager. Eric's alibi for the evening before was that he was here last night but had to leave at ten to Atlanta. Then around two thirty in the morning he stopped driving and went to a hotel. He was also up when the call came.
7. The impression that Sam had on Duena was that he had this strong connection with her like when he when he saw her he wanted to convert her and put his arm around her. He seemed to really like her and respected her. Before he met her he thought of all Italian women as fat and married young. But that changed when he met Duena. Some characteristics Duena made throughout chapter 5 I think would be that she is a strong person because thought the couple hours she had found out her father’s death she was still able to talk about an example showing this "The girl looked up "none at all" she answered. She spoke softly, but her words were clear, distinct, and unafraid."
8. Something’s that added to the plot were new characters like Eric Kaufmann, Duena Mantoli, and Frank Schubert. Another plot that was made in this chapter Virgil is also staying and we know the plan if Virgil dose not solve the case he will be to blame.

Literacy Blog #7

The new book I am reading My Year with Eleanor by Noelle Hancock. This book reminds me of the television show called “Fear Factor”. The two are similar by how the book and television show both are based on people’s fears. My Year with Eleanor is about a Woman who lives in New York and gets lade of her job as a blogger. When she is in a coffee shop she sees on quote by Eleanor Roosevelt "Do one thing every day that scares you". So the year before her thirtieth birthday she does something that scares her every day for a year. This book talks about her conquering her fears just like “Fear Factors” does with each round you do a series of challenges but at the end of it you can win lots of money. The difference between the book and the movie is that the woman Noelle in the book is doing this for a year and the show is only for a couple of days. Another difference is that the book is talking about how this is affecting the woman’s live and how she learns and gets stronger by doing this. The show is about just about how the people doing the challenges  and how they react and what the challenges consist of. Also another difference is how Noelle choses what she will face and sometime it choses her these fears are meant for her to become less afraid and “Fear Factor” is when the challenges are not chosen by the contestant  and they might not be afraid  of the challenge like others.

New Book!

I finished the Book Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children. So now I am reading the book My Years with Eleanor. It's been I really good book so far!

How Can Google Docs Help You?

Google docs can help me by how I find it is an easier way to communicate if there is group project. We can all work on it with your partners. It is very advanced and seems easier to use. You can use charts, graphs, and communicate as if you were right beside each other. By emailing you send it to your partners and they change something then you have to make a new document with it all changes and then you repeat it gets very frustrating and unorganized. You can also spend lots of money on other programs but with Goggle Docs it is free! With Google Docs it’s very organized and there is only one document and by sending emails it gets very unorganized fast. You can keep your data as long as you what. Your documents are saved online so they are not saved on your computer so you can be anywhere and have your documents with you if you are connected to the internet. You can share with anyone. When you first make your account you are the only on that haves your document then you can share it with others and the world.

Literacy Blog #5
My favorite scene in the book Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, is when Jacob is sitting at the dinner table and is meeting these children that Miss Peregrine is taking care of for the first time. They are all sitting around a large table getting ready to eat. Then all this food comes out of the kitchen like Otters wellington, salted kitten, shrew's liver, roasted goose, salmon, cod, mussels, roasted vegetables, breads, and so much more. When Jacob is at the table he recognizes kids that he has seen in his pictures his grandfather had. The conflict that occurs in this scene a changeover began to happen like it does every night to start another day.  A buzzer goes off then Jacob realizes that it is September third, 1940 and bombs are going to go off at any moment because of World War II. This is my favorite scene because this is the part in the book where everything is starting to fit together about what his father was saying. It is all making sense, like adding pieces to a puzzle.  It is also a very important part of the book because we learn a lot about the other characters and is very exciting. I really like this scene because the first time I bought this book I really wanted to know more about the picture and who the kids are. In this scene we get to know a lot about these characters and why they are peculiar.
